The pile is implemented by a displacement map. For close-up shots, I recommend setting Screen size: 0.5px in Render Setup > Performance > Displacement; for medium and long-range shots, this value can be increased to 2-3px.
The scene contains the TurboSmooth modifier – 1 Render iters, the stack is not collapsed. There is no modifier in the export file.
